The Quest Kodiak STOL airframe is making headlines with turbine power and long duration low speed flight characteristics that allow for grass strip and other off-airport use. Carrying 320 gallons of fuel with a consumption rate of 34gph at an economical cruise, the ability to stay aloft is excellent in this size range
The Kodiak is powered by a reliable Pratt # Whitney PT6A Engine that provides 750hp to a 4 blade 8' diameter prop. This combination gives the Kodiak excellent STOL Characteristics and a ground roll of under 1000'
Rugged airframe construction and minimalist interior combine for an all-purpose air vehicle. Tall landing gear and 29" tires give 19" prop clearance for getting in and out of the worlds roughest strips.
The Garmin G1000 avionics suite with synthetic vision provides unparalleled situational awareness. The center mounted MFD (multi-functional-display) accepts two video inputs to allow the pilots to see what the video console operator is tracking.
SkyHunter TM aerial surveillance system integrates the BTC-195 Ball Turret Camera System with a control console into the Quest Kodiak 100. The Kodiak with its low speed capability, long duration and smooth turbine engine make for a great observation platform. The SkyHunter system offers a fully integrated surveillance system for a fraction of the cost of a custom rotorcraft system. The advantages of a fixed wing platform are stability, duration, and range but most importantly lower operating costs.
Onboard control console conveniently mounts to the aircraft seat track. The basic version of our console houses a 20" LCD HD monitor, a precise 3 Axis control stick (with twist for zoom control) and a hot swappable flash drive video recorder. PC control is by the 12" high brightness touchscreen. The video display screen features overlays including time and date stamp, GPS positioning of both camera and area of regard and a depiction of camera aziumuth and elevation position. This video data may be shared with the pilots via the central Garmin MFD (multi-functional-display) .
The SlipScreen TM technology allows the entire ball turret assembly to be suspended in an all axis passive dampening mount. This maximiazes the dampened mass while the monocoque ball construction minimizes moving mass and ensures rapid response of the active stabilization feedback loop. The SlipScreen keeps the blast of air away from the ball. Additionally the SlipScreen allows the use of an unobstructed lenses that stay clean in operation. This OpenCockpitTM deployment provides very clear vision. (Patent US 679638)
